f:id:nina313:20150915052128j:plain

Today I was talking with my colleagues about a list from Esquire called "30 BOOKS EVERY MAN SHOULD READ BY 30". When I was looking at it, same as all the time I see this kind of list, I had lots of complaints. Obviously, nobody could be satisfied if you can only choose 30 books. Even 300 is not enough. If it was 3000, well, there will be another problem that you might forget to include some important title and it will make the whole list incomplete garbage. So, in the end, 30 is actually quite good number to compromise (if you can be subjective enough and people look at it are tolerant enough on that point). As I’m not 30 yet and I know several people who want to start reading books but still don’t know where to start, I prepared a super personal prejudiced list of 30 books, called “30 BOOKS YOU SHOULD READ IF YOU WANT TO SPOIL YOUR LIFE BY LITERATURE”. But please always remember a sentence by Hermann Hesse, “There is no such thing as «Best 100 books». There is only a selection of their own favorite books worthwhile for each individual”. If you feel forced to read these books below, you are already spoiling them and you will never be able to enjoy. Alberto Manguel wrote “The ideal reader reads all the literature as if it were anonymous”.

I purposely excluded all the classic titles which are always included in this kind of list (Shakespeare, Goethe, Austen, Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Proust, etc.), so my list became a collection of beautiful legacies from 19th and 20th century. Hope this list can help someone to find his/her favourite book one day.
